QUANTICO, Va. (WUSA) -- Near town, people gather at a pizza place to eat and talk about the shootings at Fort Hood.

"We don't need to lose more lives, especially in this way," said owner Sal Basile of Padrino's Pizza.

"Unbelievable, on a military base. Because I've been at Ft. Hood before. I know the base real well," said George Browne, who is a former soldier with the Army.

As he fills up his plate with pizza and pasta, Browne's disbelief turns to disappointment. Not necessarily with the soldier responsible for the shooting, but with the military itself.

"I think that the military bears some responsibility," Browne said. "They should have, you know, I just feel like they dropped the ball."

Nino Basile with Padrino's says he is angry.

"I'm a little disappointed with the higher up people. They should have been able to spot this guy," he said.

His thoughts are with the soldiers.

"Anytime it's a soldier, it just breaks my heart. They have all my support," he said.
